Last Friday morning, I went to Professor Ben Kiel's Modular Typography workshop. He taught us basics of working with modules and understanding the mechanics of modular type we see in everyday life. I chose the word "Jugend" in reference to the German Art Nouveau magazine I'm researching currently. It was a really fun class, and I hope to develop an entire alphabet in my free time.
Ben suggested that this decorative style works best at a larger scale, and that we are making sense of the weight of the type because the space suggested between lines and circles.
